In short
With Cloaked, you do not need to keep a separate balance of the chain's native token, such as ETH or BNB, to send or swap another token. Cloaked relays the transaction and automatically includes the network fee in the token you are using. That means fewer funding transfers that could link your addresses onchain.
Does Cloaked take gas from another address?
No. If you send or swap a token from address B, the gas fee is taken from that token balance at address B. Cloaked does not take a native token from address A, your connected wallet, or a separate gas account.
Cloaked uses a relay service for outbound transactions. The relay pays the blockchain's native gas token, and the gas cost is included in the fee charged to the token you are using. For example, when you send USDC, the network fee can be paid in USDC.
This is sometimes called in-kind gas payment: the fee is paid with the asset already involved in the action instead of requiring a separate native-token balance.
What happens when you send or swap
- Cloaked estimates the network cost — The app simulates the action and calculates the expected gas before creating the final quote.
- You review the fee — The review screen shows the network fee and the total amount required before you approve anything.
- You authorize the action — Your passkey or connected wallet signs the transaction instructions.
- The relay submits it — The relay pays the chain's native gas token and is reimbursed in the token shown in your quote.
The relay cannot move funds without your signed authorization.
What this means for privacy
Paying gas in-kind avoids a common privacy mistake: funding a fresh address with the chain's native token from a separate personal address just so it can transact. A shared gas account would automatically link every transaction it funds.
With Cloaked, token-paid gas does not add a transfer from another address that you own just to pay gas.
The action itself is still public onchain:
- The source address used for a send is visible.
- One of Cloaked's relayer addresses appears as the address that submitted the transaction.
- If one action combines funds from several source addresses, those addresses can become linked to each other.
- The destination and token movements are visible.
- Swaps and bridges reveal the contracts and routes used by the transaction.
Cloaked uses a number of relayer addresses. A relayer address shows that Cloaked submitted the transaction; it is not a gas account belonging only to you.
Where Advanced Control is available, review the selected sources or tags before approving if you do not want unrelated balances combined in one action.
Native-token sends
Native-token sends, such as ETH on Ethereum and Base or BNB on BNB Chain, are relayed in the same way. Cloaked submits the transaction and pays the network gas. The fee is automatically collected in the native token from the address you are sending from. The quote reserves enough for both the amount you are sending and the fee.
Why fees vary
Gas depends on current network prices and the work the transaction performs. A send from one source address usually costs less than an action that combines several addresses or executes a swap.
